1st bicyclist Hipcampers

Ohio-Erie Canalway Towpath Trail bicyclists HipcampersRiding the Ohio-Erie Canalway Towpath Trail our first group of bicyclists decided on staying Sunday, June 29th, 2020 at the Towpath Trail Peace Park to rest up for their trip back to Akron, Ohio. Of course, our photobombing mascot Airbud had to get in the photo too. We enjoyed hosting our first group of cyclists and look forward to sharing our property with many more yet to arrive at our historic Tuscarawas county destination.

Peace Park Pet Flash
Black Squirrel

We love the abundant wildlife on our property and have sighted four species of squirrel including the black, grey, fox, and flying squirrels! We've decided to name our resident black squirrel "Flash" to honor  Kent State University, it's Alumni, and of course Superintendent Larry Wooddell and retired Davey Tree employee who introduced the black squirrel to Kent State in 1961. Kent State University has a Tuscarawas County Campus so it seems fitting that we adopt the black squirrel that lives in our front yard and name her Flash! We've even bought Flash a friendly-looking squirrel feeder who shares unsalted peanuts, sunflower seeds, and corn.

We enjoyed hosting our first out-of-state campers, Alexa and her friend Shannon, both school teachers from Vermont. They decided to travel from Vermont to the Michigan peninsula for a summer adventure due to the COVID-19 quarantine and school break.

Lost and Found Policy

It's inevitable that someone may lose or leave something behind. When we find anything, it's put in our lost and found drawer and we attempt to notify who we think it belongs to. If we haven't a clue who the item it belongs, we add it to our lost and found collection with the hope that it's claimed later.

We do not mail the items back, be sure to check your site before leaving.

If you suspect that you left something behind or lost anything, please telephone Joe Rinehart at the Towpath Trail Snack Shack & Peace Park 330.389.1192

picnic shelter trash can on towpath trailOur Peace Park Rest Area idea came about from my brother Marc sending me a picture of a really nice single table shelter that is on the towpath trail in Cuyahoga Valley in the Boston Mills region. Since our property is located at the intersection of the Greenville Treaty line and the Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail, we saw it as an opportunity to share the history of the American Revolution era Fort Laurens which was also referred to within the treaty. Fort Laurens is located about 1.5 miles east of our trail location.

The Peace Park Blog is about the park we're establishing at the intersection of the Greenville Treaty Line and the Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail between the McDonnell Trailhead and the village of Bolivar. The Greenville Peace Treaty was the first peace treaty authorized by President George Washington and our current US Congress! 2020 will be the 225th anniversary of the treaty signed on August 3 1795 by Mad Anthony Wayne and the American Indians.

The Towpath Trail Snack Shack blog covers scheduled events we will attend at various communities along the entire 110 mile lenght of Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail. Whenever we're not at an event, chances are, we'll be blogging about something related to the Snack Shack or within a reasonable 5 mile biking, hiking or driving distance, from a remote trail location.

The Towpath Trail Snack Shack collection of hot dog and sausage dog recipes.

This Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail Blog was established to share helpful information relating to the recreational activities like biking, hiking, dog walking, horseback riding, power walking, bird and wild life watching that someone may be interested in participating.

Notice

The Great Trails Festival will be the only event scheduled through 2021!

We've decided to install vending machines in the physical towpath trail snack shack for 24/7 access instead of serving lunch between 10 am to 2 pm!
